Project X

Old School RuneScape

Install Project X

The launcher runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. It keeps itself and the client up to date and installs the scripts you pick from the store.

Windows

  1. Install Java 17 or newer if you do not have it: Temurin JDK 17 for Windows. The launcher checks for it and links you there if it is missing.
  2. Download the Windows installer and run it. If SmartScreen warns about an unrecognised app, choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Open Project X Launcher from the Start menu or desktop shortcut and sign in.

macOS

  1. Install Java 17 or newer if you do not have it: Temurin JDK 17 for macOS. The launcher checks for it and links you there if it is missing.
  2. Download the macOS launcher (one .dmg for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs), open it and drag Project X Launcher into Applications.
  3. The launcher is not signed with an Apple developer certificate yet, so the first time macOS says it is “damaged” or “cannot be opened”. Open Terminal (Command + Space, type Terminal) and run:
    xattr -cr "/Applications/Project X Launcher.app"
No output means it worked. You may need to do this again after downloading a new version by hand.
  4. Open Project X Launcher from Applications and sign in.

Linux

  1. Install Java 17 or newer if you do not have it: Temurin JDK 17 for Linux. The launcher checks for it and links you there if it is missing.
  2. Download the Linux launcher (an AppImage; x86-64).
  3. Make it executable and run it:
    chmod +x Project-X-Launcher-Setup-*.AppImage && ./Project-X-Launcher-Setup-*.AppImage
Some distributions also need FUSE for AppImages (for example libfuse2).
The RuneScape 3 launcher is for Windows and Linux. Its steps are in the RS3 getting started guide.
