Frequently asked questions

Short answers about prices, X Tokens, trials and getting set up. Can't find yours? Ask us in Discord.

Getting started

Do I need an account?

Not to look around. Every script, its description and its price are public. To get a script, even a free one, sign in with Discord. It's the only account you need: the same sign-in covers the site, the client and both games, with no password to make or forget.

Which computers does it run on?

The Old School launcher runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and needs Java 17 or newer. The launcher checks for Java and links you to it if it's missing. The RuneScape 3 launcher runs on Windows and Linux and needs Java 25 (Temurin JDK 25 from adoptium.net); on Linux it also needs WebKitGTK 4.1 and gdb. There is no phone version.

Install steps for each computer →

Do I have to install it more than once?

No. Run the installer once. The launcher updates itself and keeps the client current, so there is nothing to download again by hand.

Old School RuneScape

What is Project X?

A desktop client for Old School RuneScape, built on RuneLite, with a store of scripts that play for you. You buy access to the scripts you want and they run inside the client.

How does a script get into my client?

By itself. Buy it on the site and it appears in your client inside a minute, with no files to copy and no restart. When the author publishes a new version, your client moves to it on its own.

RuneScape 3

What is Project X for RuneScape 3?

A launcher that runs the official RuneScape client and loads a scripting engine into it. Scripts you take from the store appear in the engine's own panel, where you start and configure them.

Is it the same account as the OSRS side?

Yes. One Discord sign-in, one X Token balance, and the two stores sit side by side. What differs is the catalogue: an OSRS plugin cannot run on RS3, and the store never mixes them.

Do I need to build anything myself?

No. The launcher can install and update script jars for you. Building them yourself stays supported for anyone writing their own.

Are the RS3 scripts free?

The community scripts are, and they stay that way. They are listed here so everything arrives the same way and updates itself, not to charge for.

How does a script reach the game?

The launcher fetches it, checks the download against its published hash and puts it where the engine looks. Reload the scripts in the panel and it is there.

X Tokens and paying

What is an X Token?

The store's currency. One X Token is $1. You top up your balance by card or crypto, then spend tokens on scripts, membership and extra clients. Tokens never expire, and one balance works for both games.

Top up X Tokens →

What does a script cost?

Each author sets the price of their script for each length: 1 week, 2 weeks or 1 month. The script's page shows each price in X Tokens with the dollar amount beside it, and what it works out at per day.

Do free scripts need X Tokens?

No. Sign in, press Get it free, and you have 30 days of access. When it runs out, press it again: renewing a free script never costs anything.

How do I pay?

Top up X Tokens by card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay and Google Pay, on Stripe's checkout) or by crypto. Card details go straight to Stripe. We never see them, and nothing is saved for next time.

X Tokens →

What is membership?

A 30-day pass: Bronze 10 X, Rune 20 X, Dragon 35 X. Each one adds extra clients you can run at once (2, 3, 6) and takes money off every paid script (5%, 10%, 15%) and off renting more clients. Or take a year at once (Bronze 100 X, Rune 200 X, Dragon 350 X, 2 months free). You pay once and it never charges you again.

Compare memberships →

Can I run more than one account?

Everyone can run 1 Old School client at a time. Rent an extra slot for 3 X a week, 5 X for 2 weeks or 8 X a month, or buy one to keep for 20 X. Memberships include extra slots too.

Instances →

Can I get a refund?

For a script, yes: ask from your account page within 48 hours of buying it and the author reviews it. If approved, you get the X Tokens back and the time comes off your access. Buying X Tokens with money is final, and tokens are never refunded as cash.

Refund policy →

Can I buy a script for a friend?

Yes. On a paid script's page, gift it with your X Tokens using their Discord name or user id. They need to have signed in to Project X once. If they already own it, the time is added to theirs.

Access, trials and renewals

How long does access last?

You choose 1 week, 2 weeks or 1 month each time you buy. Access is tied to your account, not to one computer, so sign in anywhere and what you have is there.

Does anything renew by itself?

No. Nothing on Project X auto-renews: not scripts, not membership, not instances. No card is kept on file and there is nothing to cancel. When your time runs out, the script stops until you buy again.

What if I buy again before my time runs out?

The new time is added on top of what you have left, and extending before it runs out is 10% cheaper.

Can I try a script before I buy it?

Yes. Every paid script has a free 60-minute trial, one per script every 7 days. The hour starts when your client picks the trial up, not when you press the button. Trials need a Discord account at least 30 days old.

Do scripts update themselves?

Yes. When the author publishes a new version, your client moves to it on its own. Each script's page shows what changed in the latest version.

Safety and privacy

Are the scripts checked?

Every script is submitted with its source code, and a person reads it before it can go in the store. The client checks each download against the fingerprint published for it, and refuses anything that doesn't match.

What do you know about my game account?

We never ask for your game password, and never want it. Your run history records which script ran, for how long and the experience it gained, never your in-game name. The Control Panel only shows your character's name if you let the client share it.

Privacy policy →

Can my game account be banned?

Bots are against the game's rules, so there is always some risk to the account you use them on. We can't undo action taken against a game account, and it isn't refunded.

Problems and support

What if a script stops working?

Game updates sometimes break scripts. When that happens the script is marked Not working on its page, and buying and trials pause until it's fixed. If you own it, the time it was down is added back to your access once it works again.

How do I report a problem with a script?

On Old School, report it from the client. Open the Scripts panel in the sidebar, right-click the script's name and choose Report a problem. Say what went wrong, and leave the box ticked to send the client's logs from the last 24 hours and the script's settings (passwords, tokens and webhooks are masked). You need to be signed in to Project X in the client. We reply by Discord DM. On RuneScape 3, ask us in Discord.

Still stuck?

We answer in Discord. On Old School, reporting a problem from the client sends us its logs as well.
